At the excellent advice of friends who previously lived in the northeast, they suggested I not finish my ride in August, but push it out into September to enjoy the cooler weather and beautiful fall colors.

At this point Karry and I put my bike and solo gear in a storage unit next to the Toledo airport and drove back to Boise.
I flew back to Toledo, picked up my bike and continued my journey east. The original idea was to end up in Boston, but I had some make up miles that were needed so I switched to Bar Harbor Maine. This had the added benefit that I could easily detour to University of Vermont in Burlington to see niece Erica and enjoy the beautiful northeast fall colors. This also solved Karry's concern about my route as I followed the Adventure Cyclist's Northern Tier route to Ticonderoga and picked it up again in North Haverhill. From Burlington to North Haverhill I was mostly on the Cross Vermont bike route.
