Intermission

The best laid plans go awry. It is how we adapt, more than how we plan, that leads to success. The plan was to visit Alaska summer 2020 and See America summer 2021. The Alaska trip was delayed a year putting it smack dab in the middle of the cross county cycling trip. Adapt we must.

July 3rd we crossed from Michigan into Ohio. This was as good a turn around spot as any. Jon and Lisa are continuing on. Seattle to the Ohio border was 2280 miles biked and 317 miles in the wormhole. Karry and I have already started the drive back to Boise. Before heading home, I rented a small storage unit next to the Toledo airport and stored my bike and self support items, such as sleeping bag, cot, and panniers. My goal is to fly to Toledo after Firkin Frolic and continue the adventure. An online mapping tool says I have 857 miles to Boston from Toledo, plus making up 317 miles. That should take around 24 days.

Our trip to Ohio had zero days above 90 degrees and only 3 days we biked in the rain. Overall the weather was very cooperative. We had 4 rest days; 3 to see family and one to cross Lake Michigan via the ferry. With 4 people on the journey the entire way to Ohio, we got along well with Jon and I having great support from Lisa and Karry. We would arrive at the lunch rendezvous and all the fixings were set out and waiting. At the end of each day’s ride, snacks and water were at hand, along with a much needed shower. We got up early, were fed breakfast and then on the bikes by 7:45 am. Jon and I just had to pedal. Thanks so much Lisa and Karry for the great support.

  2. Hello from Mary Reiman...how cool you are adapting and rolling with the changes. Great idea on storing the bike as an incentive for finishing the ride.

So glad you had decent weather in OH.
See you at Firkin Frolic...when is that??

    You're inspiring, is right! :)
